FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Noblewood HVAC is a fully licensed and insured corporation. All mandatory HVAC certifications and licenses are current and in good standing.

No. Noblewood HVAC recognizes that each job is unique and that in this industry there is never a one price fits all scenario. We are happy to come out and assess your HVAC requirements to provide you with a quotation tailored to your exact needs with no charge to you.

  • I see you are a licensed Napoleon Dealer. Is that the only brand you install or service?

No. We service and install all makes and models of HVAC equipment. We chose to become a Napoleon Dealer because we feel their products surpass others currently available in the HVAC industry and also love the fact that they are 100% made in Canada.

  • Should I maintain my HVAC equipment with regular maintenance inspections?

Absolutely. Most people take their HVAC system for granted and think that as long as it keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter, it's performing properly. Not so. Your HVAC system is a complex mechanical machine run by electrical components and fuel. You probably wouldn't think twice about upgrading your computers components and installing anti-virus software to keep your computer running smoothly. The same is true with your HVAC system. Even the best heating and air conditioning equipment can become less efficient and experience operating issues when they are not properly maintained. This is why it is extremely important to have a qualified HVAC technician perform routine maintenance of your HVAC equipment.

  • Are the furnace filters you install different from the filters I am currently buying from my local big box supplier?

Typically the filters we supply are better quality and have higher MERV ratings. Noblewood carries an array of different filters to accommodate any equipment but recommends high efficiency filters be used and changed regularly.

  • I am having trouble with my HVAC system. How can I determine if my current equipment is still under warranty?

A general rule of thumb for warranties is 5 years for furnaces and five years for air conditioners. You can easily find out the date your equipment was manufactured by locating the label on the exterior of your unit. Warranty terms and conditions do vary by manufacturer. Noblewood can easily determine your equipments warranty status by doing a system inspection and will honour a manufacturer's warranty whenever possible to the homeowner even if we did not install the equipment.

  • How can I control the rising energy costs in my home?

Your HVAC system generally uses more energy than your other common household appliances. Here are a few easy ways to help control rising energy costs with respect to your HVAC system:

    1. Routine Maintenance:

An annual inspection and cleaning of your equipment will ensure it is running at its peak efficiency. Dirty equipment can result in efficiency loss and may even damage your equipment. Noblewood HVAC can provide you with a maintenance schedule that is tailored to your home comfort needs.

    2. High Efficiency Units:

Whether you're in the market for a new heating and cooling system or if your existing system needs to be updated, always consider installing a high efficiency system. Remember the higher the AFUE rating (furances) or SEER rating (air conditioners), the bigger the energy savings for you.

    3. Programmable Thermostats:

One of the easiest way to save on energy costs is to use a programmable thermostat. By simply programming in your temperature needs for each day of the week, programmable thermostats are able to deliver a customized comfort level for your home resulting in more energy savings for you.

  • What is an HRV and what does it do?

An HRV is a Heat Recovery Ventilator. An HRV system continually brings fresh air from outside into your home and transfers heat from stale air (which gets exhausted to the outside) to the fresh air coming in before the air is distributed throughout your home. During the heating season, the excessive amount of moisture in your home can result in water pooling on your windows. An HRV helps keep humidity levels consistent which can minimize or eliminate this issue.

REGULAR MAINTENANCE IS A MUST

Take pride in your heating and air conditioning equipment, it is a long term investment and as such requires regular maintenance and inspections to ensure you receive optimum performance and longevity from this equipment. Most consumers take for granted that their HVAC equipment runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Regular maintenance is the only way to extend the life of your HVAC equipment and help prevent major problems from starting.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • As of January 1, 2010, ALL furnaces bought and sold within Canada must be at least 90% efficient.
  • Natural gas prices have almost tripled in the past 10 years and we are expecting gas prices to rise again in the future.
  • If you install a new furnace which is 90% to 95% efficient you could reduce your average heating costs by up to 40%.

Chances are that the average homeowner is paying a lot more for natural gas than they should be. A typical furnace installed prior to 1995 is probably only running between 60% - 70% efficient. And then consider that a furnace installed prior to 1975 is probably only running at 50% efficient. That is a huge efficiency differential considering new high efficiency furnaces run between 90% and 95% efficient. What does that mean for the average homeowner? Major savings in natural gas costs.

The most common way to heat your home is with a forced-air system that distributes warm air through ducts in your home. New forced-air furnaces are only available in high-efficiency AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating. The main difference between the new high efficient furnaces compared to older mid efficient furnaces is the purchase price, operating costs, and venting.

Although the initial installation cost might be considered high, the benefits and cost savings of installing a new high-efficiency furnace far outweighs the initial upfront costs.
